An artist’s opening reception for a show is an event for the artist’s friends, family, and followers to see the show first. This event typically takes place on the opening night of the show, but could be a preview of the show. This is an open-house party for the artist's guests! The artist will typically provide snacks and beverages, and an opportunity to chat about their experience with the art. Camie loves the way art creates a space to talk about life and connect with people on deeper levels.
First Friday is a celebration in the art world that happens on the first Friday of every month. Galleries have a First Friday reception to offer a fun experience for viewers. Usually a First Friday event will have not only the art, but activities, attractions, food, or other surprises along with the art. First Fridays are usually full of people and energy. The 40 West Arts District runs First Friday events for the HUB.
Art shows in the 40 West Hub are not what is seen on TV - they are relaxed, unpretentious, and welcoming to all people. There is no expectation that everyone will “get” the art, or understand some kind of “secret” the artist is keeping. All art is open to interpretation and whatever the viewer experiences with the art is valuable to the artist.
Come as you are; there is no dress code. Art Show openings typically provide some snacks and drinks, but having a dinner out before the show can make a fun evening!
Core Art Space is a gallery in the 40 West Art District Hub, in the same parking lot as Casa Bonita. Core is one of the longest operating co-op art galleries in the Denver area. The 40 West Arts Hub houses 6 galleries and an art store.
